Ingredients
Scale
1 box cake mix (any flavor), prepared and cooled
1/2 cup frosting (any flavor)
20 mini ice cream cones
12 oz candy melts (any color)
Sprinkles, for decoration
Mini chocolate chips or candy pieces, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
Bake the cake according to package directions and let it cool completely.
Crumble the cake into a large bowl until it resembles fine crumbs.
Add frosting and mix until the texture is dough-like and holds together when pressed.
Form the mixture into 1 to 1.5 inch balls and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Chill the cake balls in the refrigerator for 1 hour or freeze for 20 minutes.
Insert a cake ball onto each mini ice cream cone, pressing gently to secure.
Melt the candy melts according to package instructions.
Dip the cake balls into the melted candy, letting excess drip off, and immediately top with sprinkles or garnish.
Place upright in a stand or styrofoam block to set completely.
Store in a cool place until ready to serve.
Notes
Use different colored candy melts to match party themes or holidays.
If the mixture is too soft to shape, chill it longer before forming into balls.
Decorate immediately after dipping while the coating is still wet.
