Iowa Party Bites are the ultimate crowd-pleasing appetizer, inspired by the heartland’s love for hearty, savory flavors. These bite-sized delights are made with ground beef, gooey cheese, and a buttery crust, making them perfect for game days, potlucks, or family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 2 tubes crescent roll dough
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (optional, for brushing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. Cook the Beef:
    • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and onion until the beef is browned and the onion is softened. Drain excess grease.
    • Stir in the garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  3. Prepare the Filling:
    • In a large bowl, mix the cooked beef, shredded cheese, mayonnaise, and Dijon mustard until well combined.
  4. Assemble the Bites:
    • Unroll the crescent roll dough and separate into triangles.
    • Place a small spoonful of the beef mixture onto the wide end of each triangle. Roll up the dough around the filling and place on the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Bake:
    • Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until the crescent rolls are golden brown.
    • Optional: Brush the tops with melted butter for added flavor and shine.
  6. Serve:
    • Serve warm with ketchup, ranch, or your favorite dipping sauce on the side.

Notes

  • Add diced pickles or jalapeños to the filling for extra flavor.
  • For a party platter, use mini crescent rolls to make smaller bites.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven to maintain crispness.
