The Italian Grinder Salad Sandwich combines the flavors of a classic Italian sub with a creamy, tangy grinder salad, all packed into a crusty hoagie roll for the ultimate sandwich experience.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 hoagie rolls or sub rolls
  • 1/2 pound sliced deli ham
  • 1/2 pound sliced salami
  • 1/2 pound sliced provolone cheese
  • 1 cup shredded iceberg lettuce
  • 1/4 cup sliced red onion
  • 1/4 cup sliced pepperoncini
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Tomato slices (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Split hoagie rolls and place on a baking sheet. Layer the bottom half of each roll with ham, salami, and provolone cheese.
  3. Bake for 5-7 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bread is lightly toasted.
  4. Meanwhile, in a bowl, mix mayonnaise, red wine vinegar, oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper to create the salad dressing.
  5. Add shredded lettuce, red onion, and pepperoncini to the dressing and toss to coat.
  6. Remove sandwiches from the oven and top with the grinder salad.
  7. Add tomato slices if using, close the sandwiches, and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add crushed red pepper flakes to the salad mix.
  • Substitute meats and cheeses based on your preference—turkey, mortadella, or mozzarella work great too.
  • Serve immediately to keep the bread from getting soggy.
