Lemonade Puppy Chow is a bright and zesty twist on the classic sweet snack mix. With tangy lemonade flavor, white chocolate, and powdered sugar coating crunchy cereal, it’s an irresistible treat for parties, picnics, or anytime snacking.

Makes about 8 cups:

  • 8 cups (240 g) rice cereal squares (e.g., Chex or Crispix)
  • 1 cup (180 g) white chocolate chips or candy melts
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) lemon juice (fresh or bottled)
  • 2 tablespoons lemon zest (optional, for extra flavor)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup (100 g) powdered lemonade mix (e.g., Country Time or similar)
  • 1 1/2 cups (180 g) powdered sugar

Instructions

  • Prepare the cereal:
    • Place the cereal in a large mixing bowl and set aside.
  • Melt the white chocolate:
    • In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the white chocolate chips in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth. Alternatively, melt the chocolate in a double boiler.
  • Add the lemon flavor:
    • Stir the lemon juice, lemon zest (if using), and vanilla extract into the melted white chocolate. Mix until smooth.
  • Coat the cereal:
    • Pour the melted chocolate mixture over the cereal. Gently toss with a spatula or wooden spoon until all the cereal is evenly coated.
  • Mix the powdered coating:
    • In a large resealable plastic bag or a bowl with a lid, combine the powdered lemonade mix and powdered sugar.
  • Toss and coat:
    • Add the coated cereal to the bag or bowl with the powdered sugar mixture. Seal the bag or cover the bowl, and shake well until the cereal is evenly coated.
  • Cool and serve:
    • Spread the coated cereal on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper to cool and set. Once dry, transfer to an airtight container for storage.

  • For an extra tangy kick, sprinkle additional powdered lemonade mix over the cooled puppy chow before serving.
