- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 3/4 cup whole milk, lukewarm
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups Belgian pearl sugar
- In a bowl, combine lukewarm milk and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- In a stand mixer, mix flour, granulated sugar, and salt.
- Add the yeast mixture, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix until a dough forms.
- Add softened butter gradually, mixing until fully incorporated. Knead for about 5 minutes until smooth.
- Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Gently fold in the pearl sugar.
- Preheat a Belgian waffle iron. Divide dough into balls (about 3-4 oz each).
- Cook each dough ball in the waffle iron for 3-5 minutes until golden brown and caramelized.
- Serve warm with your favorite toppings.
Notes
- Use Belgian pearl sugar for authentic caramelized bits.
- Let the dough rest overnight in the fridge for enhanced flavor.
- Waffles are best eaten fresh but can be reheated in a toaster.
