2 oz bourbon whiskey
8–10 fresh mint leaves
1/2 oz simple syrup (or 1 teaspoon sugar)
Crushed ice
Fresh mint sprig for garnish
Instructions
Place mint leaves and simple syrup (or sugar) in a julep cup or rocks glass.
Gently muddle the mint to release its oils—do not over-crush.
Fill the glass with crushed ice.
Pour bourbon over the ice and stir gently to combine and chill.
Top off with more crushed ice to form a mound.
Garnish with a mint sprig and serve with a straw.
Notes
Use high-quality bourbon for the best flavor.
Chill the cup beforehand for extra frostiness.
Simple syrup can be made by dissolving equal parts sugar and water.
