Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup M&M’s (plus extra for topping)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Oven and Pan:
    • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. Mix the Wet Ingredients:
    • In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and granulated sugar until smooth.
    • Add the eggs and vanilla extract, and whisk until fully combined.
  3. Combine the Dry Ingredients:
    • Sift in the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Fold gently into the wet ingredients until just combined. Do not overmix.
  4. Add the M&M’s:
    • Fold 1 cup of M&M’s into the batter, ensuring they’re evenly distributed.
  5. Bake the Brownies:
    • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly. Sprinkle extra M&M’s on top for decoration.
    • Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).
  6. Cool and Serve:
    • Let the brownies cool in the pan for 15 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Cut into squares and serve.

Notes

  • Use peanut butter or caramel M&M’s for a flavor twist.
  • For extra fudginess, reduce baking time slightly, or for more cake-like brownies, bake a few minutes longer.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
