Nixon Chicken Casserole is a creamy, comforting baked dish made with tender chicken, cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, and buttery Ritz cracker topping. It’s an easy weeknight meal or potluck favorite with retro charm.

  • 3 cups cooked, shredded chicken
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 sleeve Ritz crackers (about 30 crackers), crushed
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the shredded chicken, cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, onion (if using), garlic powder, and black pepper.
  3. Spread the mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  4. If using, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the chicken mixture.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine crushed Ritz crackers with melted butter. Stir to coat evenly.
  6. Sprinkle the cracker mixture over the casserole.
  7. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until bubbly and golden on top.
  8. Let sit for 5 minutes before serving.
