Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (200 g) elbow macaroni (or pasta of your choice)
  • 2 cups (480 ml) milk
  • 1 cup (240 ml) chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1 cup (240 ml) water
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard powder (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups (200 g) shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup (60 g) shredded mozzarella (optional, for extra creaminess)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) heavy cream (optional, for extra richness)

For Garnish (Optional):

  • Fresh parsley, chopped
  • Grated Parmesan cheese
  • Crushed crackers or panko breadcrumbs for a bit of crunch

Instructions

🍝 Cook the Pasta:

  1. Combine Ingredients:

    • In a large pot, add the pasta, milk, chicken or vegetable broth, water, garlic powder, onion powder, mustard powder, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Bring to a Boil:

    • Stir well and bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat.
  3. Cook Until Tender:

    • Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the pasta is tender and most of the liquid is absorbed.

🧀 Make It Cheesy:

  1. Add Cheese and Butter:

    • Stir in the shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheese until melted and smooth.
    • Add butter and stir until fully incorporated.
  2. Make It Creamy:

    • Pour in the heavy cream (if using) and mix until the sauce is silky and the pasta is fully coated.
  3. Adjust Consistency:

    • If the sauce is too thick, add a splash of milk or broth to reach your desired consistency.

🍽️ Serve:

  1. Garnish and Enjoy:

    • Serve immediately with a sprinkle of fresh parsley, grated Parmesan, or a crunchy topping if desired.
  2. Serving Suggestions:

    • Pair with a fresh green salad or steamed vegetables for a complete meal.

Notes

  • Cheese Choice: For the best flavor, use freshly grated cheese. Pre-shredded cheese often contains anti-caking agents that may affect the sauce’s creaminess.
  • Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Reheating Tip: Reheat on the stovetop with a splash of milk to keep the mac and cheese creamy.
