Perfectly baked potatoes with a soft, fluffy interior and a crispy skin, wrapped in foil for easy preparation and enhanced flavor. A simple and classic side dish for any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large russet potatoes
  • Olive oil, for brushing
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Optional toppings: butter, sour cream, shredded cheese, chives, bacon bits

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Scrub the potatoes under cold water and pat dry with a towel.
  3. Prick each potato a few times with a fork to allow steam to escape while baking.
  4. Brush each potato with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  5. Wrap each potato individually in aluminum foil, making sure it’s tightly sealed.
  6. Place the wrapped potatoes directly on the oven rack or on a baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 45-60 minutes, depending on the size of the potatoes. Potatoes are done when a fork easily pierces through the center.
  8. Remove from the oven, unwrap carefully, and serve with your choice of toppings like butter, sour cream, cheese, chives, or bacon bits.

Notes

  • For extra crispy skin, you can unwrap the potatoes during the last 10 minutes of baking and return them to the oven directly on the rack.
  • Adjust baking time based on potato size; smaller potatoes may cook faster, while larger ones might need more time.
  • Great as a side dish or a base for loaded potatoes.
