These homemade pet treats are made with parsley and mint, known for their natural breath-freshening properties. They’re easy to make, healthy, and great for maintaining your pet’s dental hygiene.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (125g) whole wheat flour (or oat flour for a gluten-free option)
  • ½ cup (120ml) unsweetened applesauce or pumpkin puree
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh mint leaves, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil, melted
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the Dough:
    • In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, parsley, and mint.
    • In a separate bowl, mix the applesauce (or pumpkin puree), melted coconut oil, and egg. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
  3. Roll and Cut:
    • Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about ¼-inch thickness. Use a bone-shaped cookie cutter or any small cutter to shape the treats.
    • Place the cutouts on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Bake:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the treats are firm and lightly golden.
  5. Cool and Store:
    • Let the treats cool completely on a wire rack before serving. Store in an airtight container for up to 1 week or freeze for longer storage.

Notes

  • Always check with your vet to ensure these ingredients are safe for your pet.
  • For extra crunch (and teeth-cleaning power), turn off the oven after baking and leave the treats inside to dry out completely.
  • Adjust the size of the treats based on your pet’s size.
