Pepperoni pinwheels are delicious, bite-sized appetizers made with flaky puff pastry, gooey cheese, and savory pepperoni. These easy-to-make snacks are perfect for parties, game days, or whenever you need a quick and tasty treat!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet of puff pastry (store-bought, thawed)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 50 g (1.5 oz) pepperoni slices
  • 1/2 cup marinara or pizza sauce (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions

1. Preheat the Oven:

  • Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Prepare the Puff Pastry:

  • Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface into a 10×12 inch rectangle.

3. Assemble the Pinwheels:

  • Spread a thin layer of marinara or pizza sauce over the pastry, leaving a 1 cm (1/2 inch) border around the edges. (Optional)
  • Evenly sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the sauce.
  • Arrange the pepperoni slices in a single layer.
  • Sprinkle with Italian seasoning for extra flavor.

4. Roll and Slice:

  • Gently roll the pastry into a tight log, starting from the longer edge.
  • Slice the roll into 1.5 cm (1/2 inch) thick pinwheels using a sharp knife.
  • You should get about 12-15 pieces.

5. Bake the Pinwheels:

  • Place the pinwheels on the prepared baking sheet, cut side up.
  • Brush the tops with the beaten egg to help them turn golden brown.
  • Sprinkle with grated Parmesan if desired.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes, until golden and crispy.

6. Serve:

  • Allow to cool slightly and serve warm with extra marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • You can add other ingredients like black olives, chopped bell peppers, or diced onions to customize the pinwheels.
  • These can be prepared ahead of time and frozen before baking. Just bake them directly from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to the baking time.
