Learn how to make perfect boiled eggs every time, whether you like them soft, medium, or hard-boiled. Great for breakfast, snacks, or salads.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 large eggs
  • Water, enough to cover eggs by 1 inch
  • Ice (for ice bath)

Instructions

  1. Place the eggs in a single layer in a saucepan and cover with cold water by about 1 inch.
  2. Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat.
  3. Once boiling, cover the pot with a lid and remove from heat.
  4. Let the eggs sit in the hot water:
    • 6 minutes for soft-boiled
    • 9 minutes for medium-boiled
    • 12 minutes for hard-boiled
  5. Immediately transfer the eggs to a bowl of ice water and let sit for at least 5 minutes.
  6. Gently tap and peel under running water. Serve or store in the fridge.

Notes

  • Use older eggs for easier peeling.
  • Peel just before serving or store unpeeled in the fridge for up to a week.
  • Add a splash of vinegar to the boiling water to help prevent cracking.
