A cheesy, crowd-pleasing pizza baked ziti with tender pasta tossed in marinara sauce, Italian sausage or pepperoni, gooey mozzarella, and classic pizza flavors baked together until bubbly and golden.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 oz ziti or penne pasta
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 8 oz Italian sausage, casings removed (or 1 cup sliced pepperoni)
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp dried basil
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives (optional)
  • 1/4 cup diced green bell pepper (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Fresh basil or parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook pasta in a large pot of salted boiling water until al dente; drain.
  3. Meanwhile, heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add sausage and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess fat.
  4. In a large bowl, combine cooked pasta, cooked sausage (or pepperoni), marinara sauce, oregano, basil, garlic powder, and half of the mozzarella and Parmesan. Stir until well combined. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Transfer mixture to the prepared baking dish. Top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan. Add black olives and bell peppers, if using.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until cheese is melted and bubbly. Broil for 2-3 minutes for a golden top, if desired.
  7. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley and serve warm.

Notes

  • Swap sausage for pepperoni or make it vegetarian by omitting the meat and adding extra veggies.
  • Use your favorite pizza toppings — mushrooms, onions, or banana peppers work well.
  • Leftovers keep well in the fridge for up to 3 days.
