Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 lb ground beef or Italian sausage (or use ground turkey for a lighter option!)
  • ½ small onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (24 oz) jar marinara sauce (or homemade!)
  • 3 cups beef or chicken broth (adjust as needed)
  • 1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes (fire-roasted for extra flavor!)
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • ½ tsp salt (adjust to taste)
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for a little heat!)
  • 8 oz spaghetti, broken in half (or any pasta you love!)
  • ½ cup shredded Parmesan cheese (for serving, optional!)
  • Chopped fresh basil or parsley (for garnish, optional!)

Instructions

Step 1: Cook the Meat & Aromatics

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat.
  2. Add ground beef or sausage, breaking it apart, and cook until browned (about 5 minutes).
  3. Stir in onion and garlic, cooking for 2 minutes until fragrant.

Step 2: Build the Sauce

  1. Add marinara sauce, diced tomatoes, broth, Italian seasoning, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes.
  2. Stir well and bring to a gentle simmer.

Step 3: Cook the Pasta in One Pot

  1. Add broken spaghetti, stirring to submerge it in the sauce.
  2. Cover and let simmer for 12-15 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  3. Once pasta is tender, remove from heat.

Step 4: Finish & Serve

  1. Stir in Parmesan cheese and adjust seasoning if needed.
  2. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley, and serve warm!

Serving Suggestions

  • With Garlic Bread: Perfect for soaking up the sauce!
  • With a Side Salad: A fresh Caesar or garden salad pairs beautifully.
  • With Extra Cheese: Top with mozzarella or ricotta for extra creaminess!

Notes

  • Want it creamier? Stir in ¼ cup heavy cream before serving.
  • Spicy version? Add extra red pepper flakes or a splash of hot sauce.
  • Gluten-free? Use GF pasta and adjust cooking time as needed.
  • Vegetarian option? Swap meat for mushrooms or lentils.
