Pull Apart French Toast Bake is a fun and cozy breakfast dish made with chunks of bread soaked in a sweet cinnamon-vanilla custard, baked until golden, and perfect for sharing. It’s great for brunch, holidays, or weekend mornings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (16 oz) loaf brioche or challah bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • Powdered sugar and maple syrup, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or deep casserole dish.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, brown sugar, granulated sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  3. Add bread cubes to the egg mixture and gently toss to coat. Let sit for 5–10 minutes to soak.
  4. Transfer bread mixture to prepared baking dish. Drizzle melted butter over the top.
  5. Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until golden brown and the center is set.
  6. Cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar and serving with maple syrup.

Notes

  • Prep the night before and refrigerate—just bake in the morning.
  • Add-ins like berries, chopped nuts, or chocolate chips are great for variety.
  • Use stale bread for best texture—it soaks up custard without getting mushy.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheated.
