Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large loaf of crusty bread (sourdough or Italian bread works well)
  • 1/2 cup (115 g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried parsley)
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups (200 g) shredded mozzarella cheese (or a blend of cheeses)
  • 1/2 cup (50 g) grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

🔪 Prepare the Bread:

  1. Preheat Oven:

    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil.
  2. Cut the Bread:

    • Place the bread on the prepared baking sheet.
    • Using a sharp bread knife, cut the bread into a 1-inch grid pattern, being careful not to cut all the way through.

🧄 Make the Garlic Butter:

  1. Mix the Butter Mixture:

    • In a bowl, combine melted butter, minced garlic, parsley, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
    • Stir until well mixed.
  2. Add Cheese to Butter:

    • Mix shredded mozzarella and Parmesan cheese into the garlic butter.

🥖 Fill and Bake the Bread:

  1. Fill the Bread:

    • Gently pull apart the bread squares and spoon the garlic butter cheese mixture into the cracks.
    • Make sure the cheese and butter mixture gets deep into the bread for maximum flavor.
  2. Wrap and Bake:

    • Wrap the bread loosely with aluminum foil to prevent the top from burning.
    • Bake for 15 minutes.
  3. Uncover for Crispiness:

    • Unwrap the bread and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the bread is golden and crispy.

🍽️ Serve:

  1. Garnish and Serve:

    • Garnish with extra parsley if desired.
    • Serve immediately while hot and gooey.
  2. Serving Suggestions:

    • Pair with marinara sauce for dipping, or serve alongside soups, pastas, or salads.

  • Make It Spicy: Add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the garlic butter mixture for a kick.
  • Storage: Wrap leftovers in foil and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat in the oven to maintain crispiness.
