Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup pumpkin puree
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for frosting)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 12-cup muffin tin with paper liners.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla and pumpkin puree.
  5. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients alternately with the buttermilk, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Divide the batter evenly among the cupcake liners, filling each about 2/3 full.
  7. Bake for 18–20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool completely before frosting.
  8. For the frosting, beat the cream cheese and butter together until smooth and creamy. Add powdered sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla, and beat until fluffy.
  9. Pipe or spread the frosting onto cooled cupcakes. Sprinkle with extra cinnamon if desired.

Notes

  • Ensure cupcakes are completely cool before frosting to prevent the frosting from melting.
  • Store cupcakes in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  • You can add a pinch of nutmeg or cloves to the frosting for extra spice.
