Red, White, and Blue Cupcakes are festive vanilla cupcakes swirled with patriotic colors and topped with creamy frosting—perfect for 4th of July, Memorial Day, or any summer celebration.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Red gel food coloring
  • Blue gel food coloring
  • 1 1/2 cups buttercream frosting (store-bought or homemade)
  • Patriotic sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 12-cup muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
  4. Add the dry ingredients alternately with the milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
  5. Divide the batter evenly into three bowls. Leave one white, color one red, and one blue using gel food coloring.
  6. Spoon a bit of each colored batter into each cupcake liner, layering or swirling gently with a toothpick.
  7. Bake for 18–20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool completely on a wire rack.
  8. Frost with buttercream and decorate with patriotic sprinkles if desired.

Notes

  • Use gel food coloring for vibrant colors without thinning the batter.
  • Do not overmix the swirls to maintain clear color definition.
  • Can be made a day ahead and stored in an airtight container.
