This patriotic puppy chow is the perfect sweet snack mix for your 4th of July celebration or any summer gathering. It’s a fun and colorful twist on the classic Muddy Buddies, made with Chex cereal, white chocolate, and red and blue candy melts. Great for kids and adults alike!

Ingredients

  • 6 cups Rice Chex cereal

  • 1 ½ cups white chocolate chips

  • ½ cup creamy peanut butter

  • ¼ cup unsalted butter

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar

  • ½ cup red candy melts

  • ½ cup blue candy melts

  • ½ cup red, white, and blue M&Ms (or similar festive candy)

  • Sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large microwave-safe bowl, combine white chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth.

  2. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  3. Add the Chex cereal and gently stir until all pieces are evenly coated.

  4. Transfer the mixture to a large zip-top bag. Add the powdered sugar, seal the bag, and shake until the cereal is fully coated.

  5. Spread the mixture out on a baking sheet to cool completely.

  6. Melt the red and blue candy melts in separate bowls according to package instructions.

  7. Drizzle the red and blue melted candy over the cooled puppy chow.

  8. Add red, white, and blue M&Ms and sprinkles on top.

  9. Let everything set until the candy drizzle hardens, then store in an airtight container.

Notes

  • You can swap out the peanut butter for almond butter or sunflower seed butter if needed.

  • Store in a cool, dry place for up to 1 week.

 

  • Add extra sprinkles or candies to match any holiday theme.
