This homemade Shamrock Shake is a creamy, minty delight that’s perfect for celebrating St. Patrick’s Day or satisfying your milkshake cravings any time of the year. With a vibrant green hue and cool mint flavor, it’s a spot-on replica of the McDonald’s classic!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups vanilla ice cream
  • 1 cup whole milk (or any milk of your choice)
  • 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract (not mint extract, for the authentic flavor)
  • Green food coloring (2–3 drops, adjust for desired shade)
  • Whipped cream (for topping)
  • Maraschino cherries (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Blend the base:
    • In a blender, combine the vanilla ice cream, milk, peppermint extract, and green food coloring. Blend on high speed until smooth and creamy.
  2. Adjust consistency:
    • If the shake is too thick, add a little more milk, 1 tablespoon at a time, and blend again until you reach your desired consistency.
  3. Serve:
    • Pour the shake into a tall glass. Top with whipped cream and a maraschino cherry, if desired.
  4. Enjoy immediately:
    • Serve with a straw and savor the minty goodness!

Notes

  • Peppermint extract: Be careful not to overdo it, as peppermint extract is very strong. Start with 1/4 teaspoon and adjust to taste.
  • Dairy-free option: Use dairy-free ice cream and almond, oat, or coconut milk for a vegan-friendly version.
  • Extra indulgence: Add a drizzle of chocolate syrup inside the glass before pouring in the shake for a mint-chocolate twist.
