This Slow Cooker Cheesy Mozzarella Chicken is an effortless, crowd-pleasing meal featuring tender chicken breasts simmered in a rich tomato sauce and topped with gooey, melted mozzarella cheese. Serve it over pasta, rice, or with crusty bread for a comforting dinner the whole family will love!

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce (or your favorite pasta sauce)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley or basil, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Optional Serving Suggestions:

  • Cooked pasta (spaghetti, penne, or linguine)
  • Rice or mashed potatoes
  • Garlic bread

Instructions

1. Prepare the Chicken:

  1. Season the chicken breasts on both sides with garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper.

2. Assemble in the Slow Cooker:

  1. Pour 1 cup of marinara sauce into the bottom of your slow cooker.
  2. Place the seasoned chicken breasts on top of the sauce.
  3. Pour the remaining marinara sauce over the chicken, ensuring they’re fully covered.

3. Cook:

  1. Cover and cook on low for 5-6 hours or on high for 2-3 hours, or until the chicken is tender and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F/74°C).

4. Add the Cheese:

  1. About 20 minutes before serving, sprinkle the mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses evenly over the chicken. Cover and cook until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

5. Serve:

  1. Garnish with fresh parsley or basil, if desired.
  2. Serve over cooked pasta, rice, or mashed potatoes, or with garlic bread on the side.
