Ingredients
Scale
2 cups (250g) fresh or frozen cranberries
2 cups (250g) strawberries or raspberries, hulled
1 medium apple, peeled, cored, and grated
2 cups (400g) granulated sugar
½ cup (120ml) orange juice (freshly squeezed, if possible)
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
¼ teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
Prepare the Fruits:
In a large saucepan, combine the cranberries, strawberries (or raspberries), and grated apple. Add the orange juice and bring to a simmer over medium heat.
Cook the Fruits:
Cook the mixture for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries burst and the fruit softens. Mash the mixture with a potato masher or the back of a spoon to your desired consistency.
Add Sugar and Spices:
Stir in the sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Increase the heat slightly and bring the mixture to a gentle boil. Cook for another 10-15 minutes, stirring frequently, until the jam thickens.
Check for Doneness:
To test if the jam is ready, place a small spoonful on a chilled plate and let it cool for a minute. Run your finger through it—if it holds its shape and doesn’t run, it’s done.
Add Vanilla and Jar the Jam:
Remove the pan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Ladle the hot jam into sterilized jars, leaving ¼-inch headspace at the top. Seal the jars tightly.
Cool and Store:
Allow the jars to cool to room temperature. Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks or process in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes to preserve for up to 1 year.
Notes
This recipe can be customized with other fruits, such as pears, oranges, or cherries.
For a smoother texture, blend the fruit mixture before adding the sugar.
Gift the jam in decorative jars with a festive ribbon for a thoughtful holiday treat.
