These Turkey Stuffing Balls are the perfect holiday side dish or snack. Combining the flavors of traditional stuffing with a crispy exterior, they’re easy to make and delicious to serve alongside turkey or as a party appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale

Makes about 12 balls:

  • 3 cups (450 g) cooked stuffing (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 cup (150 g) cooked turkey, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup (60 g) shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1/4 cup (30 g) breadcrumbs (plus extra for coating, if needed)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted (optional, for moisture)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • For the coating:
    • 1 cup (100 g) breadcrumbs
    • 1/4 cup (30 g) grated Parmesan cheese
    • 1 large egg, beaten
  • For frying or baking:
    • Vegetable oil (for frying) or cooking spray (for baking)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the mixture:
    • In a large bowl, combine the cooked stuffing, chopped turkey, cheddar cheese (if using), beaten egg, and breadcrumbs. Mix well until the mixture holds together when shaped. If the mixture is too dry, add melted butter for moisture. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  2. Shape the balls:
    • Scoop about 2 tablespoons of the mixture and roll it into a ball with your hands. Repeat with the remaining mixture to form approximately 12 balls.
  3. Coat the balls:
    • In a small bowl, mix the breadcrumbs and Parmesan cheese for the coating.
    • Dip each ball in the beaten egg, then roll it in the breadcrumb mixture to coat evenly.
  4. Cook the stuffing balls:
    • For frying: Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry the balls in batches until golden brown on all sides, about 3-4 minutes per batch. Drain on paper towels.
    • For baking: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Place the balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a lightly greased rack. Spray the balls with cooking spray and bake for 15-20 minutes, turning halfway through, until golden and crispy.
  5. Serve:
    • Serve warm with cranberry sauce, gravy, or a dipping sauce of your choice.

Notes

  • You can add herbs like parsley, sage, or thyme for extra flavor.
  • For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free stuffing and breadcrumbs.
  • These balls freeze well! Prepare and freeze them before frying or baking, then cook straight from frozen (adjust the cooking time as needed).
