The Zinger Burger is a spicy, crispy chicken sandwich featuring a seasoned fried chicken fillet, fresh lettuce, and creamy mayonnaise, all tucked into a soft burger bun. It’s a homemade take on a popular fast-food favorite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 4 burger buns
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 4 tbsp mayonnaise
  • Optional: sliced cheese, pickles

Instructions

  1. Slice each chicken breast in half horizontally to make four thinner fillets.
  2. In a bowl, combine buttermilk, paprika, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Add chicken and marinate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight.
  3. In another bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Remove chicken from marinade, allowing excess to drip off, and dredge in the flour mixture, pressing to coat thoroughly.
  5. Heat oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 350°F (175°C). Fry chicken for 5–7 minutes until golden and cooked through. Drain on paper towels.
  6. Lightly toast burger buns. Spread mayonnaise on the bottom bun, add lettuce, place a fried chicken fillet on top, and cover with the top bun. Add cheese or pickles if desired.
  7. Serve hot with fries or a side of your choice.

Notes

  • Adjust spice level by varying the amount of cayenne pepper.
  • Use a meat thermometer to ensure chicken reaches 165°F (74°C) internally.
  • Air fry for a lighter version: cook at 375°F for 15–18 minutes, flipping halfway.
