Ingredients

Scale

For the Dough:

  • 1 lb (450 g) pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for brushing)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

For the Filling:

  • ½ cup (120 g) marinara sauce (plus extra for dipping)
  • 1 cup (100 g) shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup (50 g) sliced provolone cheese
  • ½ cup (50 g) sliced pepperoni
  • ½ cup (50 g) cooked Italian sausage, crumbled
  • ½ cup (50 g) black olives, sliced (optional)
  • ½ cup (50 g) green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • ½ cup (50 g) mushrooms, thinly sliced
  • ¼ cup (25 g) grated Parmesan cheese

For Garnish (Optional):

  • Fresh basil or parsley, chopped
  • Red pepper flakes

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven:

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it with olive oil.

2. Roll out the dough:

  • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a large rectangle (about 10×14 inches).

3. Layer the fillings:

  • Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.
  • Evenly layer mozzarella, provolone, pepperoni, sausage, olives, bell peppers, and mushrooms on top.
  • Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese and any additional seasonings.

4. Roll and seal the Stromboli:

  • Carefully roll the dough from the long side, like a jelly roll, keeping the filling inside.
  • Pinch the edges to seal, and tuck the ends under.
  • Place seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.

5. Brush and season:

  • Brush the top with olive oil and sprinkle with garlic powder and Italian seasoning.
  • Use a sharp knife to cut 4-5 small slits on top for ventilation.

6. Bake:

  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  • Let cool for 5-10 minutes before slicing.

7. Serve:

  • Slice into thick pieces and serve with warm marinara sauce for dipping.
  • Garnish with fresh basil or parsley and red pepper flakes, if desired.

Notes

  • Substitute meats with veggies like spinach, sun-dried tomatoes, or artichoke hearts for a vegetarian version.
  • Use store-bought dough for convenience, or make homemade for a more authentic touch.
  • Can be made ahead and frozen—just bake from frozen at 375°F (190°C) for 40-45 minutes.
